Ok - Rosie and I ate both crickets and maggots, and she is trying to convince me to try a scorpion next time we are in Bangkok! Dunno if I will though...
I think I prefer maggots cos they are smaller and they don't have the legs/wings. Also, you can kid yourself that a maggot is a puce NikNak, whereas it's a bit harder with a cricket...
Yeah they weren't actually selling geckos...wouldn't eat them anyway!! You see them everywhere here though...Nick grabbed a gecko by the tail yesterday and it detached it and left the tail wiggling in his hand!
And I have to apologise for including scorpions under insects - thank you Jon! - as apparently they are not. Whatev.
What did they taste like? Which did you prefer, crickets or maggots?
ReplyDeleteDid you stick Geckos in to make up the numbers, or were they really selling them?
I suppose our reaction is just the same as a vegetarian thinking about eating meat at all.

Here in Africa we tend to eat something called a "mopani worm", but I must admit, I've never heard of anybody eating maggots!
ReplyDeleteWould you say they were nice? Or just that "you did it"
