Mauri Hangi

Mauri people. They actually do stick their tongues and their eyes out like that - they're imitating the animals of the forest. It looks a bit scary!!

  1. Great photos, I could almost smell the sulphur in those mud pools in Rotorua. I think the serious winter weather has left us here, we have temps of 8&9degrees now, we are envying you in your shorts&tee's!! Are you still eating burgers or have you found something more traditional for NZ??

  2. I am quite glad to have left Rotorua to be honest! We are now in the south island - we caught the ferry accross this morning - and it is beautiful here! All green and hilly. Well what is moretraditional food? We are staying at a hostel tonight that gives out free chocolate pudding and ice cream every evening...is that more traditional??

  3. Kiwi fruit I suppose, and other things that grow locally. New Zealand Lamb? Barbies? Fish? Is there lots of fish? Eddie had moules last night, I had Sea bass, and Steve had a marmite of fish - it was a very tasty fish stew.

  4. Ok well we actually haven't had any of those things so far...we've got some mince which was really cheap (we've got 1.5kg which cost about 2.50). So the mince is lamb. But otherwise, no traditional NZ food as yet...
